AWS reInvent Recap

I just finished up another AWS reInvent conference. This is one of my favorite conferences. For those that have never been to reInvent, it is a deep dive into all things AWS. Amazon makes all of their big product announcements, and we get an opportunity to hear from so many people about how they are making use of the technology. Since it is held in Las Vegas, I get to connect with peers and meet new people. It is just you and 50000 other people competing for seat reservations at each talk.

I managed to get s seat at quite a few good talks. I also spent some time in a few hands-on labs. The only real challenge is that there is so much content. Image over 3000 sessions, talks, and events spread across 5 casinos and 5 days. reInvent has more content than a single person can see in a week. On a good note, Amazon makes most of their presentation content available about a week after each event. This site is also my opportunity to watch presentations where I could not get a seat.

There's too much AI this year! I heard this several times on the first day. Many of the presenters and companies were eager to show off their new AI capabilities. I also heard BYOM several times. Yes, that is bring your own model. Several companies not only offered that choice between Amazon, Anthropric, AI21, OpenAI, and many others, but they also had hooks to bring your own trained model. The Amazon Q mentions did get a bit redundant after a while. It all just goes to show that if you are not already working with AI in your platform, then you are way behind.
