I have rolled back to Google reCaptcha until I have a solid block of time to debug the code.
I recently saw a post on the hCaptcha blog that it now serves 15% of the internet. I have been using Google reCaptcha for quite a while, and I don't really have any reason to complain with the service. It's a large scale service, and I've only had minor issues with trying to adapt to changes. I had never really considered switching captcha services until I read that article.
I like the idea of having some diversity and competition in the IT space so I decided to give hCaptcha try. I started with their office WordPress plugin. I managed to get the captcha working on the login form; however, I've run into a bit of trouble making the plugin work on the comments form. I keep getting an error stating "Please complete the captcha." It's a bit confusing since it returns the green check mark after completing the image selection, but fails on the form submission. I've started disabling other plugins and tweaked my ModSecurity rules. I haven't had much luck so far so commenting on my blog is currently broken. If you need to contact me, please use one of the many other contact options in the footer of my blog. I had planned on linking to a referral URL, but I'll hold off with that for now.
