The hiring process is finally coming to close. I am officially joining Pearson as Senior Manager of Platform Engineering. I am really excited about this new role. I really enjoyed my time in the education sector when I was with McGraw-Hill Digital Learning and Vanderbilt University. The education sector really provides an opportunity to make a positive social impact and improve life for future generations of learners. I was really sold on the role during my interviews. In addition to meeting engineers on the team, I was able to have candid discussions with senior leadership. It was a two-way conversation, and I was able to learn more about the team, the product roadmap, and the challenges ahead. They have some really great projects lined up on their roadmap.
As for the specifics of my role, I will be leading a small distributed team of platform engineers supporting the Credly and Faethm teams. I was already familiar with Credly before the interviews. My Scrum Master and Scrum Product Owner certifications were issued by Credly. I am guessing that I will have plenty of opportunity to enhance my Credly profile. One of the perks of working in education is the many personal learning opportunities.
I already know what my first major project will be, and I am really looking forward to getting started. I still need to complete the due diligence activities and the onboarding steps so my start date is not for a couple of weeks. In the mean time, I will be enjoying some much needed down time, and I will spend some time prepping my home office. I am looking forward to the arrival of my laptop and the welcome kit. One of the perks of this role is that I will be working from home with some occasional travel to meet with peers. I can probably expect some trips to Hoboken and Minneapolis in the near future.
Pearson, Credly, and Faethm have really great reputations in the EdTech sector, and I am looking forward to my first day.
